About the Department
The Department of Education, Indira Gandhi College, Boitamari was established in the year 1995 with a mission to fulfill the needs of the Education subject in the locality and also to create an environment where every student can build up their career as educationist as well as a better human being. The objectives of the department are to train the students for all round development of personality and the academic excellence. Since its inception, the department has been persistently pursuing the confirmed goals of education for circulating knowledge, encouraging innovative ideas, creating a conducive atmosphere for blooming of talents and inculcating a sense of social responsibility and dedication in the new generation for a better world. Currently the department offers both Honours (Major) and Regular (Minor) B.A. course in Education as per the latest CBCS syllabus of Gauhati University. The department has a Psychological Laboratory for psychological practical work. There are sufficient number of psychological Apparatus of the department to conduct practical work. There are three full-time Faculty members and one contractual Faculty in the department. With the help of four faculty member, it is easy to manage the classes very smoothly. The department provides sufficient opportunities to students to showcase their various abilities. Students are given opportunities to participate in departmental seminar, group discussions for their all-round development of personality. The department always impart quality Education. For the holistic development of their students the department is actively work.
Maximum students obtained 1st class from this department both Honours and Regular course more or less. Each and all faculty members of this department are helpful towards the student. So, their contribution in the field is Education is more or less remarkable. Education is an integral part of human life as well as human activity. This activity can be received or provided from one another either formally or informally. It can be received formally from educational institution and in informally from home, society etc. The future development of individual as well as society depends on education. It is a powerful instrument to improve all aspect of individuals, such as physical, mental, moral, social, spiritual etc. It helps us to remove our ignorance and assist to bring to light in human being. With the help of this light man can justify the difference between what is good and what is bed or what is justice and what is injustice. The quality education can make our mind broad, also it helps to remove superstation believes, bed habits from our society. It can bring new hopes-aspirations, wish, interest and needs in our mind. This encouragement can carry new thinking in our mind and we take novel effort to achieve it. In this way education help us to develop the individual and society. Therefore, we can say that without education there is nothing development of any area of our society. Education is the first necessary component to live healthy life in the society now-a-days. Quality education can maintain our quality life style in our society.
For the quality development and all-round development of personality of students, the department inculcate the subjects such as Principles of Education, Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Sociology, Philosophy of Education, Teacher Education, Mental Health and Hygiene, Developmental Psychology, Measurement and Evaluation in Education, Educational Statistics, Environmental and Population Education etc.
Now, the department is ready to introduce Four Year Under Graduate Programme(FYUGP)under Gauhati University.
