A Brief History and Background of Indira Gandhi College, Boitamari
Indira Gandhi College, Boitamari located in the heart of Boitamari touched by NH-31, in one of the college in Assam. Its has been started on 31st Dec 1995.The foundation stone was laid down by the Honourable Chief Minister Hiteshwar Saikia on 10th Sept. 1995. The College came into existence under the able leadership of some local persons and the then M.L.A. Sri Chandan Kumar Sarkar of Abhayapuri South LAC . It is on that very day of laying foundation stone the MLA declared to provide 7,00,000/-(Seven lacs) to the College.The people of the entire area Moligaon, Salbari, Dhakanabari, Bamunitilam, Dhantola, Jolakhata, Raghunandanpur, Barkhata, Kasharpara, Amguri, Bashbari, Dwenwangaon, Dhalagaon, Rashigaon, Bidyapur, Bahalpur, Mulagaon, Khagarpur, Talguri, Panchagaon and other adjoining areas, though were economically poor, contributed liberally to turn the dream of the college into reality. The name of the college came after the name of the then Prime Minister Smt. Indira Ganghi, Who had taken initiative steps to turn India into a prosperous one. The College is situated in the North Salmara Sub-Division of Bongaigaon District. The natural beauty of the College is very charming for the river Tunia and Bhairav Chura Hill behind it.
The College was started as single faculty Arts Degree College Affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati. At present, it has within the preview of provincialisation of the Assam Govt. The College has attained broader dimension in the area of higher education. A host of highly qualified and dedicated teachers have been imparting knowledge to the students using modern methods and techniques
THE VISION OF THE COLLEGE
The college envisages to strive towards making education a means for the reconstruction of society by training the students to foster the freedom of the mind, the humanity of the heart and the integrity of the individual so that they can realize the great ideals of economic justice, social equality and political freedom. It also strives towards creating and maintaining the proper temperament of mind for the construction and beneficial use of scientific and technological knowledge towards achieving progress and well-being of the society.
THE MISSION OF THE COLLEGE
To impart quality education, keeping in view the needs of the times and harmonizing it with the cultural matrix of the society. To foster, promote and sustain the cultivation of science and to encourage individual initiative for dissemination of scientific knowledge and finally to secure for the people of the society so that the benefits that can accrue from the acquisition and application of scientific knowledge. To develop a sense of self-realization through various student support activities. To stimulate an interest in the sources of our civilization, its art and thought, its language and literature and its philosophy and religion. To generate resources and develop basic infrastructure so as to provide the facility for research and development and to create an inspiring atmosphere of creative activity. To help equip the students with commonsense, dignity, self-control and hard work so that they can effectively counter/negate the menace the communalism, intolerance, violence and hatred.

Our college is affiliated to Guwahati University, Guwahati, Assam. The college has a governing body as per the provisions of Govt. of Assam, Non-Govt. College Management Act, 2009. It runs as per the rules, regulations and guidelines issued by government from time to time.
The college comes under provincialized category; therefore financial transactions are audited by govt. norms. The college has different committees to maintain all types of discipline in the campus. All the cells or committees of the institutions are under statutory bodies. The applications under the RTI Act along with a postal order/demand draft for Rs. 10.00 obtained in favour of Principal, Indira Gandhi College, Boitamari. These applications may be sent to the Public Information Officer (PIO) or handed over in his/her office. All information about the college is open for the public and it can obtain by citizens of India.
